Behind the Scenes

What inspired these tales...

It wasn't intentional, but these two stories ended up being about love lost and found again.  The couples are also not white, instead they're ethnically suited to their stories.  Another thing they have in common is the Eastern link wasn't intentional either, they merely fit the mood I was in.  So, what pushed me over the edge and toward China and India in particular?

Culture and travel.

As a child, no trip to San Francisco was complete without a visit to Chinatown.  As a college student, my eldest niece resided in the city and we stopped by a few times to see how it was all going, soaking up what made this part of the city so welcoming and different.  Add to this one of my all time favorite books, Wild Swans, and the various paths it led me down, and it was merely a matter of time before I dipped my fingertips into China.

A surprise trip to India inspired me so much, I knew something would come from it, just not what.  While there we traveled from north to south and attended a Hindu wedding.  Wow, what an experience that was.  I had a famous Bollywood actress explaining the ceremony to me and what all the various symbols truly meant.  This led to my writing my first and, to this day, only virgin heroine.

The one thing I wanted to do was respect each culture and their differences from my own, maybe introduce something fresh to the reader as I was with my visits.
